PDF metadata removal
Remove hidden metadata from a PDF
A PDF can carry far more than what you see on the page: the author's name, the software that created it, edit history, hidden text layers and comments. RedactSnap's export rebuilds the document from flattened page images and blanks the document info fields.

What gets removed on export
Document info fields
Title, Author, Subject, Keywords, Creator and Producer are cleared.
Hidden text
White-on-white text, text behind images and off-page content does not survive flattening.
Annotations and comments
Only what is rendered on the page is kept. The underlying annotation objects are not.
Embedded fonts and objects
Each page becomes a single image, so the original font and object structure is discarded.

Why metadata leaks happen
Office software writes the author name from the user account into every document. Exporting to PDF carries that into the file. Tracked changes and comments can also end up in the PDF depending on export settings. These are easy to overlook because they are not visible when you read the document.
Frequently asked questions
Will the PDF still look the same?
Yes. Pages are rendered at high resolution, so the visible content looks the same. The text is no longer selectable, which is the trade-off for removing everything hidden.
Does it remove metadata from images inside the PDF?
Yes. Embedded images are re-rendered as part of the page, so their original EXIF data is not carried over.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. RedactSnap reads the PDF with your browser's File API and processes it in memory on your device. There is no upload endpoint and no server-side copy of your document. You can confirm this by opening your browser's network tab while you redact.
