Image redaction
Redact a JPG or PNG image in your browser
Scans, phone photos and screenshots often need a few details removed before they are shared. RedactSnap opens the image on your device, finds common personal information with OCR, and gives you back a PNG with solid boxes burned in. The image is never uploaded.

How to redact an image
- 1
Drop the JPG or PNG into the box above. It opens locally in your browser.
- 2
Click Find sensitive data to read the text and list what it finds.
- 3
Add boxes from the findings, and drag more over faces, signatures or anything else.
- 4
Download the PNG, or choose "Download as PDF instead".
Solid boxes, burned into the pixels
The tool only draws solid boxes, and the exported image is redrawn from pixels with the boxes in it. There are no layers to remove and no blurred copy of the original underneath.
OCR reads printed English text
Clear printed text is read well. Handwriting, small or stylised fonts and text at an angle can be missed, so look over the image before you download it and box anything the scan didn't list.
Frequently asked questions
Can I redact a HEIC photo from my iPhone?
Open it as a JPG instead. On iPhone, share or export the photo as JPEG, or set Settings → Camera → Formats to "Most Compatible".
What file do I get back?
A PNG. The image is redrawn from pixels with your boxes burned in, so nothing under the boxes and none of the original file's metadata, such as EXIF GPS location, is carried over. If you need a PDF instead, there is a "Download as PDF instead" option.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The image is read by your browser and edited in memory on your device. There is no upload endpoint and no server-side copy. You can check this in your browser's network tab while you redact.
