RedactSnap vs Adobe Acrobat
An Adobe Acrobat redaction alternative that runs in your browser
Acrobat's Redact tool is reliable, but it is part of Acrobat Pro. Acrobat Standard and the free Reader don't include it. If you need to redact a few documents without a subscription or a desktop install, RedactSnap does the job in a browser tab with no upload.

When Acrobat Pro is the better choice
If you redact large volumes every day, need the output to stay searchable without re-OCRing, or already pay for Acrobat Pro, its built-in tool is a sensible choice. Acrobat also supports Bates numbering and other legal production features.
When RedactSnap is the better choice
If you need to redact occasionally, can't install software on your machine, or don't want an Adobe account, RedactSnap opens in any modern browser. Automatic detection of names and common identifiers saves time on first-pass review.
Frequently asked questions
Can I redact in Adobe Acrobat Reader for free?
No. The Redact tool is part of Acrobat Pro. Reader can draw shapes over text, but the text underneath is still in the file.
Is RedactSnap as secure as Acrobat redaction?
Both remove the redacted content rather than just covering it. RedactSnap does this by flattening each page to an image, which also removes hidden text and metadata. The trade-off is that the output is not searchable.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. RedactSnap reads the PDF with your browser's File API and processes it in memory on your device. There is no upload endpoint and no server-side copy of your document. You can confirm this by opening your browser's network tab while you redact.
