For law firms
Redaction software for law firms that keeps client files local
Court filings, discovery productions and client correspondence all need redacting, and each upload to a web tool sends privileged material to another company's servers. RedactSnap runs in the browser on your own machine, so redacting a document doesn't create another place where the client's file is stored.

What Smart Scan flags in legal documents
Fed. R. Civ. P. 5.2 identifiers
Dashed SSNs, card numbers and the names of parties and minors are flagged. Add account numbers and taxpayer IDs as custom terms.
Names and organisations
Parties, witnesses and third parties, flagged by a named-entity model that runs locally.
Contact details
Email addresses and phone numbers across correspondence and exhibits.
Client and matter terms
Add client names, matter numbers or code names as custom terms and every occurrence is found.
How a firm uses RedactSnap
- 1
Open the filing or exhibit in the browser. It isn't uploaded.
- 2
Run Smart Scan and add matter-specific custom terms.
- 3
Review every page, and box anything privileged or confidential that the scan can't know about.
- 4
Export a flattened PDF and check it before filing or producing it.
Confidentiality without another vendor in the chain
ABA Model Rule 1.6(c) asks lawyers to make reasonable efforts to prevent unauthorised disclosure of client information. Each cloud tool that receives a document adds a vendor to review and a copy to account for. RedactSnap never receives the file, so there is nothing on our side to assess.
What RedactSnap does not do
It doesn't add Bates numbers, produce privilege logs or keep redacted text searchable. The output is a flattened image PDF. For large productions with those needs, a litigation review platform or Acrobat Pro is a better fit, and RedactSnap suits the everyday filing, exhibit or letter that needs a quick, reliable redaction.
Team plan
The Team plan gives each member Pro features and lets the firm share redaction policies across the group. You pay per seat, from 2 to 200, and can change the seat count at any time.
Frequently asked questions
Will a court accept a flattened PDF?
Most e-filing systems accept image-based PDFs, but some courts ask for text-searchable filings. Check your court's e-filing rules before you rely on a flattened copy.
Can staff use it without installing anything?
Yes. It runs in any modern browser, and after the page has loaded it keeps working offline.
Is my file uploaded anywhere?
No. RedactSnap reads the PDF with your browser's File API and processes it in memory on your device. There is no upload endpoint and no server-side copy of your document. You can confirm this by opening your browser's network tab while you redact.
Is the redaction permanent or just a black box on top?
Permanent. A black rectangle drawn in an ordinary PDF editor can be copied around or deleted, leaving the text underneath readable. RedactSnap exports every page as a flattened image, so the original text layer, fonts and hidden objects are not carried into the file you download.
