RedactSnap vs iLovePDF

An iLovePDF redaction alternative that never uploads your file

iLovePDF is a popular all-in-one PDF site. Its Redact PDF tool processes files on iLovePDF's servers, and its own guides say redaction needs a Premium account. RedactSnap redacts in your browser instead, so the document you are trying to protect is never sent anywhere.

Why upload-based tools are a poor fit for redaction

You redact a document because it contains something sensitive. Uploading the unredacted version to a third party, even encrypted and for two hours, is the step you were trying to avoid. A local tool removes that step entirely.

When iLovePDF is the better choice

If you already pay for iLovePDF Premium and mostly merge, compress, convert or sign non-sensitive PDFs, keeping everything in one place is convenient. RedactSnap only does redaction.

Frequently asked questions

Does iLovePDF keep my files?

iLovePDF says uploaded files are deleted automatically within 2 hours, and that you can delete them sooner from the download page. See iLovePDF's own security page for current details.

Is my file uploaded anywhere?

No. RedactSnap reads the PDF with your browser's File API and processes it in memory on your device. There is no upload endpoint and no server-side copy of your document. You can confirm this by opening your browser's network tab while you redact.

Is the redaction permanent or just a black box on top?

Permanent. A black rectangle drawn in an ordinary PDF editor can be copied around or deleted, leaving the text underneath readable. RedactSnap exports every page as a flattened image, so the original text layer, fonts and hidden objects are not carried into the file you download.
